About the Opportunity 

We are seeking a talented and motivated Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for a permanent full-time role based in our Bunbury office.

This is an ideal opportunity for a skilled mechanical design engineer looking to take the next step in their career – leading a small, capable team of draftspeople while continuing to work hands-on in design. You’ll report directly to the General Manager – Engineering and play a key role in shaping the future of our equipment range.

Piacentini designs and manufactures a range of industry-leading mining equipment including Dozer Traps, Pump Stations, and our flagship Panther Low Loader – a revolutionary product that is setting new standards in safety and efficiency for ultra-class equipment relocation in mining.

About You  

  • 5+ years in a mechanical design engineering role (experience with mining or heavy mobile equipment highly regarded)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Chartered credential with Engineers Australia (highly desirable)
  • Proficient in Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and Vault
  • Solid understanding of Australian engineering, fabrication, and manufacturing standards
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Interest or emerging experience in team leadership and mentoring
  • An interest in or readiness for a step into technical leadership
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality
  • Current Australian driver's licence
  • Willingness to undertake a pre-employment medical and drug/alcohol screen

Key Responsibilities 

  • Produce detailed 2D and 3D mechanical designs for custom mining equipment
  • Manage and mentor a small team of draftspeople, allocating tasks and reviewing outputs
  • Oversee design quality, ensuring compliance with standards and project requirements
  • Maintain drawing control using Autodesk Vault
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and project teams to ensure seamless build and fit-out
  • Review designs for manufacturability, safety, and serviceability
  • Support continuous improvement in design processes and documentation
  • Provide technical input across projects including mechanical, hydraulic, and occasionally electrical systems
